In a worldwide reunion more than two hundred and fifty Centonians from several countries, Members of the Managing Committee Mrs. Amrit Kaur Sabharwal – Vice Chairperson, S. Amarpal Singh Sabharwal, S. Tajinder Pal Singh, Sardarni Jaswinder Kaur, S. M. P. Singh – Secretary GNFCS School Society, Mrs. Jashveen Kaur, the Dean Mrs. N. D. Sawhney, Principal Mr. A. K. Tewari, the faculties of past and present got together at the Raddission Blu Plaza – to usher in the 50th year, reminiscence old times and look to the future.

In a fun filled evening going down the memory lane the Centonians relived the golden moments of their school days. The programme commenced with the March-past by post holders of yester years and the oath administered by the Principal.

The House spirit and rivalry was at its zenith amongst the ex-students who contested in the various fun games and lucky draws. The quiz conducted on the history and milestone events of the School was the highlight of the evening. In the final round S. Balraj Singh Randhawa School Captain 1987-88 batch won the much sought after prize sponsored by the school. A free ticket to the couple from any country of the world to GNFC School and back on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The musical Antakshri between the old boys and girls rocked the House. The coveted cock House Trophy for the evening was lifted by the Ex- Students of Ranjit House.

Rich tributes were paid to the founders Sardar Mehtab Singh Ji, Sardarni Jasbeer Kaur Ji and Sardar Jaspal Singh Ji, for whose dedication, devotion the school would not have been what it is today. A two minute silence was also observed remembering the late members of Management and Staff.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Anil Tewari expressed his gratitude to all for having taken out time and joining us on this occasion. Appreciating the role of the Centonians in society he stated, “Past glory is to create pride and build a future. During the last 50 years the GNFC family has grown and is settled all across the globe. There is a CENTONIAN who as a leading businessman/woman, a doctor, an engineer, an IT professional, a Pilot, a lawyer, an actor, an army officer or any other profession of their choice is serving the country & society. We are proud of each one of you.”

GNFCS today stands for human values, for progress, for innovation and skill based education. The school is committed to provide the best nurturing environment for our children to learn, grow and achieve their goals.

He also thanked S. M. P. Singh, Kawaljeet Gandhi, Jagjeet Singh, Niravesh Sri Kalra, Jasveen, Jasbir and other Centonians for having made this so very important event possible.

Mrs. N. D. Sawhney speaking about the achievements of the school and the vision of the future highlighted that, “The school is now ranked amongst the top 10 residential schools in the country and is No. 1 ‘ Value for money’ school in Uttrakhand according to the Education World India school ranking 2017-18. The legacy of the Founders was ably carried forward by our Late Chairman Sardar Jaspal Singh ji who took some very revolutionary initiatives to mould the school to its present form. He introduced the concept of E-learning, established Radio Khushi 90.4 FM along with Mission Jagriti as CSR initiatives. The establishment and support to BAL VIDYA MANDIR was to ensure quality education for children from weaker sections of society. The school at Relic Estate has now been upgraded to class VII and affiliated to Uttarakhand Board of education. Medium of education is English. Our motto for future is “knowledge for a better world”. We are also an ISO – 9001: 2015 Certified School.

Sardarni Amrit Kaur Sabharwal, Vice-Chairperson-Guru Nanak Fifth Centenary School Society blessing the vast gathering congratulated the Alumni for making a positive contribution in society and doing well in life. Reunions she said are festive times when nostalgia reigns, rekindles old memories, unforgettable moments and the incredible years you people have spent in GNFCS. It strengthens your bond of friendship. This particular reunion is indeed a special one, a golden one as it ushers in the celebrations of the golden fifty years of Guru Nanak Fifth Centenary School.

On this occasion of 50 years we recall with gratitude the dynamism, the vision, the dedication of our illustrious founders Sardar Mehtab Singh Ji, Sardarni Jasbeer Kaur Ji. They left a rich legacy which fell into the able and competent hands of their son S. Jaspal Singh Ji, my brother (Veer Ji), an elder brother to everyone. S. Jaspal Singh Ji, a Chairman, par excellence made things happen, not watch things happen. He had a burning desire to develop the qualities of head and heart and wished every student to be an enlightened and useful citizen of the country.

Looking ahead and taking the school to greater heights she said the support of the Ex-students would play a vital role. Their suggestions would be most welcome and Sardar M. P. Singh would gladly incorporate to keep the banner fluttering high.

S. M. P. Singh, Secretary GNFCS Society invited all the Centonians to the 50th Founders Day Celebration to be held on 12th and 13th October, 2019. Addressing the gathering he mentioned, “The Golden Jubilee Celebrations will be spread over the year till Mid-October. Centonians are welcome to visit the school and join us as we celebrate this milestone birthday and look to the future. Many of us have been away for many years and it will be wonderful to see old friends. It will be a great opportunity to interact with your batch mates and refresh your memories.

You are our valued ambassadors and we would like you to strengthen your ties with the present lot of Centonians and the school. I’m sure all of us shall share the philosophy, passions & goals of the school and shall join hands together in spreading the light of knowledge, serve humanity and live up to the school motto – “Sarbat –Da-Bhala” Do good to all.”

Boulert Sethi with his wit and humour kept the entire audience enthralled and along with Kawaljeet made it an evening never to be forgotten. A number of mementos and surprise prizes were presented.

Looking forward to the reunion in Mussoorie in 2019 and cherishing the memorable moments of the evening, the guest and Alumni enjoyed the dance session and sumptuous dinner.
