Riding The Rapids: Rafting In Rishikesh

Rishikesh is often called the playground of adventure sports in Uttarakhand. It is situated amidst the foothills of the Himalayas. Every year people from all over the world visit Rishikesh for camping, rafting and other adventure sports. On 22nd & 24th of April the senior students of GNFC School dressed in blue jeans and white shirts went on a trek to Doon valley. After early breakfast we had to walk more than 14 kms to reach Rajpur from where we boarded the bus to Rishikesh. Our camp was situated in a place called Bayasi. It was a beautiful camping site with greenery all around. We were accommodated in nice comfortable tents. In the evening we played games and observed the beauty of Nature. After dinner we rested anticipating the enjoyment and thrill we would experience the following day.

Rafting in the Ganges is an adrenaline pumping activity in the midst of breathtaking scenery of the Shivalik hills. Next morning we were ready for this daring sport and were enthralled by the rapids of the mighty Ganges. Even for nonswimmers it is a safe activity. There were experts to take care of our safety. After getting the instructions from the guides of each raft we finally stepped forward to encounter the rapids. Some of the rapids we crossed had the following names:

Sweet sixteen, Crossfire, 3blind mice, black money etc. We enjoyed playing with the white surf of the mighty river. River rafting had set our pulse racing and it was undoubtedly one of the most memorable experiences of our life.
